CHKDSK - check your hard disk for errors

Sometimes after use your computer may get come coruptions in some of your files. it is a good idea to check for them if you system is running slow or not running how you would expect it too. Below is a guide on how to run CHKDSK to check for errors and correct them on your system.



1. Open my computer, either via the icon on the desktop or in the start menu

2. Right click on your hard drive (normally c:) and select Properties

3. Select the Tools tab at the top and click on Check Now

4.Once the Check Disk menu comes up click on both "Automatically fix file system errors" and "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors"

5. Click start and a message will most likely come up asking you to schedule the utility to check the disk, when than comes up click yes

6. Restart your computer and let CHKDSK run while your computer starts, it may take a few hours on some systems so just let it finish
